When we announced our B Corp certification, the response was amazing. The plaque looked great, the LinkedIn love poured in, and we all took a moment to celebrate. But if you know us, you’ll know that a shiny badge was never the goal.
Becoming a Certified B Corporation was a huge milestone, but it’s what happens after certification that really counts. It’s one thing to meet the rigorous standards. It’s another to live up to them, every single day. And at Magenta, that’s the part we care about most.
Already walking the walk
Our commitment to the B Corp values didn’t begin when we started filling out the B Impact Assessment. Many of the practices that helped us achieve our score of 126.1 were already part of our DNA. For example, our move to a 4.5-day working week (with full-time pay) was rooted in a desire to give our team more breathing room and better work-life balance. We’d already become an Employee Ownership Trust, handing our people a bigger say in the strategic direction of the company and a financial stake in its success.
We didn’t need a certification to tell us these things were “good for business.” We just believed they were the right things to do.
How we’re upholding B Corp standards today
Post-certification, our approach hasn’t changed. Everyone who’s part of Magenta is paid fairly, as are our suppliers, in line with real living costs. We’ve held firm to our commitment to only work with clients who are driving social or environmental progress, and we continue to apply our Responsible Comms Charter and Green Claims Policy to every campaign we deliver.
Environmental responsibility remains a priority too. We’re actively working to improve how we track and manage our carbon emissions, so we can take even bigger steps towards a sustainable future.
Transparency and continuous accountability
Of course, being a B Corp also means being transparent and accountable. That’s why we report on our impact every year – not just to tick a box, but to make sure we’re improving in all the areas that matter. We publish these updates publicly in the B Corp Directory, and you can also find them in our annual Impact Report.
Learning and growing with the B Corp community
More than anything, becoming a B Corp has given us a framework for continuous improvement. We’re part of a global community now with thousands of organisations who are all committed to redefining success in business. That’s exciting. It’s also motivating. We’re not just holding ourselves to account; we’re learning from others, sharing what works, and pushing each other to do better.
More than a badge
So yes, the plaque looks lovely. But we’ll keep proving that we earned it, one responsible decision after another.
