Certified for change: What’s next in our B Corp journey

Becoming a Certified B Corporation was a proud moment for Magenta – but if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that B Corp status isn’t a finish line. It’s more like a starting point. 

Getting certified confirmed that we’re doing a lot of things right. We’re supporting our people, taking care of the planet, and working with clients who share our values. But the real value of B Corp lies in what comes next. This isn’t about sitting still. It’s about building momentum – and using the certification as a framework to do better, year after year. 

Strengthening our commitment to inclusion 

Looking ahead, one of our biggest priorities is deepening our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. While we’ve made great strides, there’s more work to do. We’re investing in inclusive recruitment practices, opening up more leadership opportunities, and continuing to learn how to build a workplace where everyone can thrive. It’s not just about ticking boxes. It’s about building a culture that reflects the world we want to be part of. 

Taking environmental action further 

On the environmental front, we’re formalising our environmental management system, starting with more robust tracking of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions. We’ve already made moves in the right direction – like operating on 100% renewable energy – but understanding our full footprint is the next step in reducing it. It’s a challenge, but one we’re ready for. 

Transparency you can trust 

We’re also focused on being more transparent. Every year, we’ll continue to report on our impact – not just through the B Corp Directory, but in our own detailed Impact Report. These reports aren’t just for show. They’re a mirror, helping us see where we’re succeeding and where we need to step it up. That accountability keeps us honest and focused. 

Supporting purpose-led partners 

Just as important is our continued focus on working with purpose-led clients. Communications is a powerful tool, and we believe it should be used to create positive change. That’s why we’re so passionate about helping organisations with strong social or environmental missions tell their stories in a clear, credible, and ethical way. 

Collaboration within the B Corp community 

And we’re not doing any of this alone. One of the most rewarding parts of becoming a B Corp has been joining a community of businesses who are all pushing in the same direction. We’re learning from fellow B Corps, sharing ideas, and collaborating on ways to raise the bar for everyone. It’s a community we’re proud to be part of – and one we’re excited to contribute to. 

Most recently, MD Jo Sutherland joined the community at the Better Business Day B Social in support of the Better Business Act, which advocates for changing the law so that directors are required to consider people, planet and profit equally.

So, what’s next? 

More of what got us here – more listening, more learning, more bold action. Certification was the launchpad. Now it’s time to fly higher.
