Being a junior account executive, Magenta style…

From the moment I left my interview with Esme (Magenta’s senior account manager) I knew that I’d enjoy working at Magenta. I got a great sense of the company culture simply by entering the office, then Esme told me about Magenta’s values: individual, playful, curious and loyal. All of the values made me curious to find out more. Now that I’ve secured the role as the new intern at Magenta I have been able to experience the company culture first-hand.

It’s now coming up to my first month at Magenta and I can safely say I’ve had a ball. As with any job there has been lots of new things to get used to: new people, new software, new industries and the not so dreaded (hopefully it stays that way) new commute. Despite all the ‘newness’, I have never once been made to feel like ‘the new girl’. One thing I’ve learnt about Magenta is that everyone – no matter what level – takes wellbeing seriously. We have a weekly exercise class, regular team meetings, quarterly team days and plenty of different spaces to work.

It’s never quiet in the office, but my colleagues are always ready to give me their time and attention. My guardian work angel Ollie, who is just finishing up his placement at Magenta before returning to university for his final year, has been a huge help. It’s so useful to have guidance from someone who was in the same position as me a year ago and the handover has eased me into the tasks I will take ownership of once Ollie has left.

So far, I’ve written press releases, managed Magenta’s Twitter account and have been responsible for regular internal news updates as well as many other tasks including research. Research is pretty much fundamental for my job role as it gives me a better understanding of many things including: clients, statistical evidence and industry trends.

In addition to these tasks, this month has been busy in terms of activities. In July, we had our quarterly team day, consisting of workshops and brainstorming in the morning and a team outing to Go Ape in the afternoon. We also had the Magenta team photoshoot. From everything I’ve experienced in my first month at Magenta, I am so excited to see what the next 11 months bring.
