Since I was a child I have always been interested in the media. What makes a good story? How do journalists decide what to write about? How do you get onto Newsround?
Over the years this fascination led to the realisation that there was a career that would allow me to learn the answer to all of those questions. Now, 15+ years later, I am a communications professional with experience gained from working across a range of sectors for brands that are household names like Toshiba, EE and EDF Energy, as well as smaller start-ups and many types of business in between. I’m passionate about story-hunting, developing new ideas, creating strong communications strategies and building productive relationships with interesting clients. That coverage on Newsround still remains elusive though.
I learned the trade in full-service agencies doing everything from writing press releases, managing international press tours and running global accounts. Before joining Magenta, a curiosity to see how things really work on the client side led me to in-house roles where I had the opportunity to understand the pressures and motivations that guide PR from the other side of the fence.
Now back to my agency roots, I’m excited to join the Magenta team and help our clients achieve their communications goals in new and interesting ways.
Outside of work a lot of my time is taken up by scouring the pages of recipe books and convincing myself I could be on MasterChef if only I had the time to practice.
For me, Magenta was offering a varied base of work, projects I could really get my teeth into, the opportunity to develop creative plans, and a team to coach, mentor and learn from. Importantly, it also gives me the opportunity to contribute to a business I can feel proud to be a part of.
