FM and workplace events in 2022

It’s spring, which means we’re already in the second quarter of 2022. With everything else going on in the world, it’s easy to forget that April also marks a little over two years since the pandemic began.

Although it may not be an anniversary worth celebrating, the good news is that lockdown restrictions have ended and the world is finally returning to relative normality. People are heading back into cities to work and meet colleagues they haven’t seen in months. Meanwhile, conferences and trade shows are in-person again.

FM and workplace events in Q1 of 2022

Since the turn of the year, the Magenta team wasted no time in getting back out there. In February we were at i-FM’s Workplace Futures conference. The theme was ‘FM & sustainability: the social, environmental and commercial challenge’. Sustainability is likely to take a front seat in the built environment following the pandemic, especially after the warnings in last year’s COP26 that climate change is approaching a ‘code red’ emergency. You can read our Workplace Futures recap here.

In March, the team headed out to Cannes, France, for the return of MIPIM, one of the world’s largest real estate events. We heard experts discuss decarbonising property, how buildings will change post-pandemic, and the role technology will play in shaping them. Our report from the three-day event can be found in the April issue of Facilities Management Journal.

FM and workplace events coming up soon

And there’s plenty more to come over the next few months. The team has just attended The Workplace Event, an exhibition and conference at the NEC, Birmingham, featuring speakers from Channel 4 News, Microsoft, Starbucks and more. We were also at the Workplace Trends Research Summit at the end of March.

Our MD Jo Sutherland is chairing a session on sustainability in FM at the Facilities Show on Wednesday 18 May. She’ll be joined by experts to discuss how FM can contribute toward environmental, social and governance objectives such as net zero. Later in the month, Jo will also be chatting at Clerkenwell Design Week in talks curated by global architecture firm BVN.

You can find recaps from events we attend in the ‘Sector News‘ section of our blog.
